Black Feather - Pluma Negra .01

01. Hide! /01. Esconda-se!

I never imagined that members of a religious order could be so dangerous. And that day my family found out about it the hard way. Ironically, it was on a Sunday…

Our house was very simple. All made of wood and some iron pegs. It was in an open field, but it was right next to a vast forest. We had animals that guaranteed us sustenance and a small agriculture that was done by my father.

He didn't mind hard times in the harvest, because he always believed better days were ahead. My mother worried too much. She took care of the animals and was afraid of losing them, as they helped to support us.

I have an adopted brother. His name is Dolwar. He was 6 years old when my parents found him and I was still a baby. He was in a ditch inside the forest, cold, hungry and without remembering his past, because he had hit his head very hard when he fell into the ditch.

Dolwar took care of me in a way I can never repay. Our bond grew stronger and stronger. “I won't let anything hurt you” was what he always said. It was always good to hear that.

Whenever I went outside, some people passing by were afraid of us and I didn't understand. Years later I came to understand…

One day my father ran into the house and quickly locked the doors. My mother would close all the windows and tell my brother to hold me and hide. We went to the wardrobe.

My father tried in vain to hold the door, but they managed to break it down. The people who invaded had pitchforks in their hands.

- Where's the girl? Let's take it! That's what I could hear from them. They had necklaces with a religious symbol and black clothes. My brother tried to calm me down, as I was shaking a lot. As always, giving me the peace of mind I needed.

It all happened so fast… My father was hit in the stomach by one of their pitchforks. My mother went into despair and went to try to help my father, who was already dead. She was the victim after him.

“This place is doomed! Evil has ruled this house! Burn it all!” Those cowardly words are still in my memories to this day. I panicked and started screaming. My brother was much stronger than I was and he couldn't keep me in his arms.

I wished they would all go away, away and get off my parents. When I came out of the wardrobe, I saw that there were numerous crows coming in from the front and opening holes in the small cracks in the walls and windows. They didn't seem to be ordinary crows, for I had always played with crows in the fields.

They had incredible strength. They were getting in and they looked furious! It was a matter of seconds for those crows to fly up to the invaders and start attacking their faces.

The house was already beginning to be engulfed by fire. My brother picked me up again in his arms and carried me out into the forest while screaming for help. That's when a very tall man, wearing a beige cloak that covered his entire body, appeared.

"You are safe now." Said the man in a very calm voice. He said that we should follow the forest trail until we reach the cliff.

This man continued walking and began to take off his cloak, showing what was around his body: a kind of golden armor that shone very brightly even without the sunlight hitting it directly. He went towards the house that now had three creatures with dark but shiny shells on the roof.

It was all I could see until the trees covered my vision. After a long time running, we managed to reach the cliff. We were not alone...
